You invested money on an online platform (crypto, trading, forex, stocks) and now the site no longer responds, your account is blocked, or the platform has completely disappeared? Unfortunately, this is an increasingly common situation. Here's how to react.
Yes, it's very serious. If an investment platform disappears with your money, it's probably fraud. These scams are often operated from abroad, which complicates recourse, but it's still important to document and report.
"I invested $5,000 on a trading platform recommended on Instagram. The site closed overnight."
"I was promised 15% return per month on crypto. At first it worked, then impossible to withdraw."
"A 'financial advisor' contacted me on WhatsApp. I invested $10,000, now he doesn't respond anymore."
"The site still exists but my account has been 'under verification' for 3 months and I can't withdraw anything."
Beware of recovery scams! If someone contacts you saying they can recover your money for a fee, it's another scam. Never pay to "recover" your funds.
Investment fraud is criminal, but often operated from abroad. Police can take your complaint. The AMF and Anti-Fraud Centre compile reports to identify fraudster networks.
Document your case with us. Every report helps identify fraudsters and protect other victims.
File a ReportIt's difficult but not impossible. If you paid by bank transfer, contact your bank quickly. For crypto, it's unfortunately almost impossible.
Check on the AMF website if it's registered. Be wary of promises of guaranteed or very high returns.
